The Harden Murrumburrah Rugby League Football celebrated their annual Presentatiion Night on Saturday Night at The Harden Country Club. Over 100 guests were treated to a lovely meal and danced the night away, but not before the Hawks finest were recognised for their efforts over the 2015 season.
The Harden Hawks Club have been performing very well over the last 3 seasons with the mens side making Grand Finals in 2013 and 2014 and missing out on the Grand Final in 2015 after an injury ravaged end to the season. Some of the best matches of the year were against Bungedore the evntual winner with statistics proving how close both sides were this year.
The Hawkettes had a change of format in 2015 after entering the competition in 2014 and making the Grand Final against Binalong playing touch football. In 2015 the ladies played League Tag and aquitted themselves very well making the Grand Final in 2015 to be beaten by a single try.
Many of the team members are still in High School. Maryanne Fitzgerald officiated over the evening and did a splendid job keeping the crowd entertained with some light hearted jokes and ran the night with excellent structure. Club President Jason Pollard highlighted the fact the club doesnt function without sponsors and volunteers and was appreciative of both during his speech. Kevin Cullen was announced as life member of the club and joined 25 other stalwarts made life members over the last 41 years.
The only threat to the Hawks in 2016 will be to retain their talented players some of whom travel from Canberra to play for their home side due to work committments. The old saying goes ‘ You can tell how a town is going by how the footy side is going’. With both sides competitive over recent years Harden Murrumburrah and surrounds must be doing well. Hawks Hawks Hawks!
