The Boorowa/Harden Twin Town Times U/6’s Played host to Wagga Roos at the Boorowa Showground on Saturday. Jayden Steele and Declan Kerrison where our try scorers for the day with the lads crossing the white line a number of times. Lewis Shea and Justin Woodhead continued their defensive work with some good strong tackles. Lachlan Rigg and Pheonix Daries are showing improvements in their attack and defence whilst Will James and Angus Oldfield made a few good tackles. Archie Quinn and Landen Vasquez made some good tackles and had a few good runs with them both boys making lengthy runs down field. Good game boys. 32-36.
The Boorowa/Harden Ceeney’s U/7’s Played the Wagga Roos on Saturday. Jayden Steele and Jonah Allen where our try scorers of the day with both lads breaking through with some good lengthy runs down field. Thomas Woodhead showed potential with his attack and defence, with a lot of great tackles and a few good runs. Sam McGuigan and Declan Kerrison had some good strong runs and showed some great defence work. As we were short for players due to holidays Will Rigg and Boston Kerrison stepped in to help us out and they showed the younger boys how it’s done with great attack and defence from them both. The Harden Tyre Service U/8’s played their neighbour’s Boorowa on a cool Saturday morning at Boorowa and with 1 of their regulars missing, troops were called from everywhere to fill the numbers with regulars Jayden Steele and Sam McGuigan stepping up with Johnny Barnes and Brody Steele also helping out. Rory Arabin was again menacing in attack and had plenty of help from Will Glover and Will Rigg who were tackling anything that moved. Boston Kerrison tried hard all game but in the end Boorowa were far too strong for the boys.
The Boorowa/Harden Delta U/9’s Played Kangaroos Blue at Boorowa under Mod League rules, to give them a taste of what’s in store next year. The Coach was looking forward to running more numbers on the paddock, however he never thought he would be looking for numbers to make the minimum, but that’s what was needed. Coach/father reluctantly asked son Jayden to put the jumper on for his 4th game of the day. With mum hesitant the coach reassured her he would hang out on a wing and only need to make a tackle if it came his way. He said he wouldn’t be needed to run unless the ball was kicked to him but as usual Jayden didn’t listen and not long after was seen taking a hit up off a tap. It was a real opener for the boys who were at times lost with the big field and new rules but they did themselves pretty proud going down 24-0. The scoreline a far cry from an earlier encounter during the year where the Roos boys put 60 on them! Ty Leitner was dangerous with every touch making plenty of metres and Angus Woodhead seemed to enjoy the new rules and chased hard from marker a number of times. Oscar Phillis gave great service from Dummy Half and George Daly showed great promise in organising his runners from Halfback.
The Harden/Boorowa Harden Electrical and Cooling, Under 10’s showed great sportsmanship against the Wagga Kangaroos on the weekend with some of our boys playing for the opposition on the day to make ten on ten. It made for a great game with the final score being a 34 All draw.
The Harden Carrington Hotel U/10’s League tag girls played arch-rivals Boorowa in a fast and intense match. It was obvious that both teams have improved throughout the season. Boorowa scored the first tries in the game, putting the pressure on our girls in the centre-Pippa, Sophie, Zarlie, Talai and Georgia. Shocked by the fast pace from the opposition, these girls soon stepped up their defence, confidently backed up by Amelia, Hayley, Bonnie and Heidi. Hayley scored our first try with Amelia only narrowly missing the conversion goal. The game was a flurry of tags as both teams struggled to move forward. Georgia finally broke through and scored our second try. Sadly, we were unable to keep up the momentum, despite some epic runs from Zarlie and Amelia. The game was a Boorowa victory, 16 to 8.
Boorowa/Harden Court House Hotel, Caltex and Landmark under 11’s Jnr League team had another heartbreaking narrow loss by 2 points to the Kangaroos Blue team, last Saturday in Boorowa. The boys started off their game like the day started for the whole of Boorowa, with no power!! They let the blues out to an early lead before they started playing any football. Once they held the ball for a couple of sets it wasn’t long before play maker Cooper Cross crashed over and set up another for rookie Grahame Parkes to score his maiden try out wide. 10 all at the break. They started the second half like they finished the first with great lead up work from Sam Shea and Will Fahey gifting Cooper his second and Harrison 2 quick tries as well. Great defence from Josh Flick, Beau Abnet, Harrison Hadley and Cooper Cross held the blues attacking waves, but too many mistakes at the end of the game cost us dearly going down 26-24. Harden Light Horse and Boorowa Court House Hotel 16’s girl’s league tag participated in a cross over match between the northern and southern pools. They drew Turvey Park who are top of the ladder in their conference which seemed a big task as the girls currently sit second last in their conference. The big occasion brought everyone to the game ensuring that for the first time this season the whole team was available to play. Along with the consistent under 13’s help there were four reserves. Unfamiliar territory for the team. The girls started well defending together in a line this not allowing Turvey to penetrate their goal line. The girls looked good when they ran on to the ball and played a bit wider of the ruck. This is what allowed Rachel to cross for the first points of the game. 4-0 an unexpected score line given the calibre of their opposition. The lead didn’t last long as Turvey scored a break away try through the middle of the field to make the score 4-6. However the girls retaliated with haste as a short kick off went in their favour giving them great field position. 3 quick play the balls and some lightning fast hands saw Jody cross the chalk on the left edge. 8-6 the lead returned to the home side. Yet again another minor lapse in communication let Turvey regain the lead just before half time with another try under the posts. The girls went into half time trailing 8-12. Some magic water and a group chat out of the way, the girls believed that they could win the game. Communication was the key and working hard in defence. It was end to end footy for the next 15 minutes with either team unable to break the line in the second half. No fingernails were saved as the game drew near the end. With three minutes to go Anna tries the famous ‘Show and Go’ and finds herself in open space and under the uprights. Scores level at 12-12 a massive kick for Tracey and her team. As it sailed over the black dot the home crowd were ecstatic. Now all the girls had to do was hold Turvey out for 2 minutes. That is exactly what they did. An absolute cracking game of league tag. It Just goes to show that with a full team and the right attitude this team of young ladies can topple the leaders. This week we head to Cootamundra to pursue an endeavour to play finals footy.
