Fire and Rescue Harden will be holding their annual Open Day this Saturday from 10am to 2pm. This will be a great opportunity for the public to see how a rural Fire Station operates and to ask any questions related to fire fighting and home safety. A feature of the day will be to see Harden Fire Station’s history in photographs, which has been collected and mounted in frames on the watch house walls. The station dates back to 1934 when recruiting began with 10 men and was known as the Murrumburrah Volunteer Fire Brigade. It later became the N.SW. Fire Brigade, and is now known as Fire & Rescue New South Wales. Over 97 members have passed through the town brigade with the longest serving member, the late Barry “Gerry” Robinson clocking up 42 years (1959 to 2001). Nic Nadycz, however, is hot on his heels, having recently been recognised for his 36 years of service. A sausage sizzle will be in operating on the day. Everyone is welcome.Matthew Prosser
