A 160km endurance ride is set for the ANZAC Day weekend for Harden. The Harden Murrumburrah Endurance Riders Association will be holding the event, with competitors able to enter in 20km, 40km, 80km, 120km and 160km length events.
Horses will be vetted on Saturday the 25th, with the event starting proper on Sunday the 26th of April. Competitors for the 160km and 120km event depart at midnight, 80km riders depart at 6:00am, 40km riders depart at 8:00am, and a 9:00am departure for the 20km competitors.
The event will start and end at Newington Woolshed, just off the Burley Griffin Way.
“We are expecting a couple of hundred horses,” said Harden Murrumburrah Endurance Riders Association President, Gordon Smith. “The 160km event is a qualifier for the Australian Championships to be held in June.”
Gordon said he was confident of a good turn-out for the event, and that it will benefit the town economically. “The riders will stay and compete in Harden,” said Gordon, “that also means they will shop in Harden as well. This will benefit the community.”
