On a beautiful early autumn day, 38 people turned out to signify the start of the season proper at the Harden Country Club Golf Course. With a dry track from lack of late summer rains, and pure rolling greens, scoring was always going to be high in the 4BBB Stableford opening event.
Jamie Cantrill and Matt Schofield went on a 3 and 4 point festival it is told, and brought home the bacon with an admirable 51 combined points. Jamie was on fire it is said and recorded a whopping 44 points of the combined total. The lads took out the Harden Pharmacy trophy for the day in a canter. Thanks go to Mark and the crew at Harden Pharmacy for their continued support of the Opening Day event.
Three shots back the stars of the midweek comp over summer, Herb and Marj Manwaring combined to record a 48 point outing. They led the ball comp with balls going back to a massive 47 points. Other pairs to collect balls on the day were Alexa & Rick Preston also on 48 points, Brian Wales & John Hawkins 48 points, Robert Bates and Darrell Cassidy on 47 points, and Ron Page and Peter Steinke 47 points.
The men played a ball sweepstakes single stableford in conjunction with the winner and a welcome return to the form of almost 15 years ago was John Hawkins.
Hawkeye put together a lazy little round of 46 points on his own and will definitely have an appointment in the Handicappers Office midweek.
Interestingly, his 4BBB partner for the day Brian Wales only had to add 2 points to John’s score for their team result. Brian had a cruisy day and listened to his races whilst Hawkeye did all the heavy liftting.
Other very handy individual scores included Jamie Cantrill with his 44 points and John Brownhill with 40 points continuing last weeks form. John would have shot more except that he had to carry his anchor of a partner around this week as he was being examined by the handicapper, and subsequently wilted because the load was too great. Matt did do better on the GG’s and maybe Walesy and Matt should hook up next week on the punt and not at golf ??
