Consistent cruising Cassidy Clambers into contention
Another 20 players went round on Saturday showing how popular the Fit’n Well Summer Championships have been this off-season.
This week the scoring was high for the whole field, yet Mr Consistency Darrell Cassidy just keeps on tallying up the 40 point averages putting him potentially just off the lead in A Grade for this summer’s cup.
Darrell probably fleeced Butch Bates on the way round however just did enough on the back 9 to edge out the friendly farmer Tim Beveridge also on 40 points for two very nice rounds from these gents. It would then appear that half the field were within 2 or 3 shots with the minor places being argued out by a bevy on 39 and 38 points.
Balls went to Tim Beveridge (40 pts c/b), Robert Bates (39 pts), Fred Douglass (39 pts), Brian Wales (39 pts), Ian Clarke-Bruce (39 pts) and Eric Kuhn (38 pts). Three others were 1 point back on 37 points proving that only a missed putt here or there is the difference in recent weeks.
Fit’n Well Progress Scores
The winner of the Fit’n Well $50 best score for January by a championships eligible player was Robert Bates who knocked out a 42 point round earlier in the month yet doing just enough to claim the cookies from Herb Manwaring who also had a 42 point round but just being denied on a countback.
The Fit’n Well Summer Championship Leaders going into Februrary (our final month of contention) are; A Grade Craig Filmer 83, Darrell Cassidy 82, Matt Peisley 81 & Peter Steinke 80 B Grade Brian Wales 81, Robert Bates 80, Ian Bruce 79 & Tam Kennedy 78 C Grade Ron Page 86, Herby Manwaring 83, Tim Beveridge 81 & Rod McIntyre 81.
This is a provisional points table Remembering 1 score in Feb to count plus the next best score from over the whole three months, counts to the 4 round total. We appear to be in for a nerve wracking photo finish as the next best scores and overall consistency could be the important deciding factor.
The full results sheet are available at www.hardengolfclub.com website where all your golfing information resides. It will not be long before this years program will go up as it is in the final stages of preparation.
Midweek Comp
It was only last week I made comment about the invasion of very welcome ladies in the midweek comp, all getting their chops ready for the season ahead. Well wouldn’t you know it, our scribe extraordinaire has stepped up to the plate this week and announced her presence.
Mrs Marjorie Manwaring was this weeks champion by blitzing the par 24 point stableford 12 hole layout in a remarkable 32 points. This fantastic effort has seen a scythe slash through her handicap to the tune of 8 shots. Marj resumes this week on a new but still generous 21. Lookout guys ,I think she is still a red hot chance on this handicap.
Marg just edged out fellow legend Lady golfer June Spencer on a countback at 32 points. June has scored her best round of the season also being 8 shots better than her handicap would suggest yet escaping the handicappers vicious slicing action by not winning. Look out next week.
Other scores of note this week included Ian Clarke-Bruce and Marg Campbell on 31 points, Tony Campbell on 29 points and Peter Steinke and Michael McPake on 28 points.
