Harden Shire Council approved the keeping of a rooster at a Harden residence during the 26 November business meeting, albeit with strict conditions imposed.

As the applicant was a member of a poultry club, and the breed of the rooster is an ‘Opperington’, considered a quiet breed, Council approved the application as keeping with the current Domestic Animals Policy.

Council approved the keeping of two roosters, despite the applicant seeking only to keep one. Strict conditions were imposed on the rooster, which is to be kept in a constrictive cage between the hours of 8:00pm and 6:30am to prevent crowing.

Council will continue to monitor the situation, and will review the application if conditions are breached.
