Robyn Atherton spoke with Tim O’Keeffe at the Remembrance Day Service in Newson Park on Monday.
He said, “I was quite pleased with how it went. There were about 150 in attendance, with a lot being from the High School.
“The Light Horse troop were also in attendance.
“The Deputy Mayor Tony Flanery and Councillor Michelle Gallo were official guests. Councillor Stadtmiller was unable to attend.
“It’s 106 years since the Armistice was signed on this day and that is why it is commemorated on this day and that marked the end of the First World War.
“We didn’t have anyone officially there from the Armed Forces, but there was the Major who was the MC for the Light Horse Re-enactment at Murrumburrah. He was there as he is still an active member.
“The Light Horse Troop proceeded down to the Light Horse Memorial at Murrumburrah.
Tim explained that the Light Horse Troop take the lead on the Murrumburrah service.
“We don’t have an active part in organising that as that is done by the Re-enactment group.
“We normally go down and do the Oath for them on Anzac Day and Remembrance Day. That is the most active role we have.
When we were last speaking with Tim he was talking about stepping back from his RSL duties.
“Well, that didn’t happen, did it?” He said jokingly.
