The Harden Picnic Races will draw a huge crowd on Saturday with a perfect and sunny 21 degree day predicted for the biggest event on the twin town’s social calendar.
The races will see a six race card with 43 horses reaching the weights part of the entry process across the day, with the feature race over 1400 metres, the Harden Picnic Cup, drawing the maximum nominations of 10.
Titled Tycoon is the top weight and will have to carry 75.5 kilograms if the 7 year old gelding is to claim the win, while the Scott Spackman trained Notes will have to lug 68 kilograms if the 6 year old gelding can deliver the former Harden man his third Cup after Cryfowl won two titles, before his career finished up at the stable.
President Nathan Schofield said, “Everything is ready to go for a great day. We have sold plenty of marquees and we are expecting a good crowd on top of that.
A Courtesy bus will be running from 11:30am until 2:00pm with pick up points including the Carrington, Bowling Club and Harden Motel and Caravan Park and recommencing at 5:30pm until 8:30pm with a $10 cost.
The after party has become a feature of the big day out with the committee releasing a notice on social media that over 450 tickets had been sold or given to sponsors, however, only 108 bus tickets had been purchased for those wanting to get back in to town.
They said, “Make sure you grab a $10 bus ticket to ensure a ride home. There will be no cash or EFTPOS on the bus!
We have listened to feedback and are trying to get everyone home quickly and safely.”

Fashions’ All Star and well-known local Harry Sachs, will be judging the Fashions on the Field this year, along with representatives from generous sponsor, Bendigo Bank.
Harry has won Fashions on numerous occasions but this year the Race Club has taken him out of the equation.
This year, you don’t need a nomination ticket to be part of the Fashions on the Field. Just turn up to the Fashions Stage and grab a number from Penny Lucas.
