Cootamundra Strikers record big win over Henwood Park – On top of the table at the halfway mark of the season.
The Cootamundra Strikers Men’s have exceeded all expectations with not only a big 9-0 win at home over competition heavy weights Henwood park, but sit on top of the table at the halfway mark of the season.
The team has seen some massive changes over the last two seasons, with the changing of the head coach and a massive turnover of players drove the club to enter Wagga’s third grade competition for the foreseeable future.
It’s a move that has brought solid results back to O’Connor Park and looks to be a move that will continue.
The team started the year down on player numbers but as the season went on numbers grew and results followed.
Ryan Breese was elected as club captain and the return of former 1st grade coach Luke Dickinson added to their attacking flair.
Harrison Fallon and Riley Mills stepped up to senior football and look to be players of the future.
Jeremiah Kaile has made waves in the first half of the competition and is the team’s leading goal scorer finding the net on 9 occasions.
The biggest threat for the Strikers looks to be the Young Lions and Lake Albert Sharks who are just two points behind in 2nd and 3rd on the ladder respectively.
The Strikers have a big month of football coming up, welcoming Hanwood FC from Griffith to O’Connor Park in there next fixture and coach Andrew Parkinson wants to see the team keep things simple and stick to the game plan

“It’s been an enjoyable season so far, it’s a better competition than what people think and there’s a lot of former first graders in other teams, we only have 1 or 2 former first grade players, and the rest are either knew players or young guys”

Coota Times best players at the halfway mark of their season are as follows
Jeremiah Kaile. Leading goal scorer and has been dangerous in every game, with every touch of the ball. Easily a walk up starter to pretty much every first grade side in the competition and will be looking to add to his goal scoring tally in coming weeks.
Luke Dickinson. Brought experience and composure to the line up and leads the team around the park. A target for players to pass to and the teams structure is always in tact when his on the field.
Kaleb Johnson. Gone under the radar for most part of the season so far.
Lighting quick and a strong left foot that brings a different aspect to the teams attack.
A player to watch out for when the Strikers make a push for finals football.
Current ladder position: 1st Predicted finish: Premiers.
A positive start to the year for the young strikers line up.
Have shown on their day to be among the best teams in the competition. Undefeated and look to be getting even better..
Need to prove they can do it in the big games when the pressure is on.
Cootamundra Striker Mid Season Review Madden Shield – Senior Womens
Undefeated at the half way mark, with only a draw in round two against Leeton, the only time they have been challenged on the pitch. A team with a good balance of youth and experience with 400 game stalwart Annette Parkinson calling the shots and organising the defence week in week out.
The team had a great win over Henwood park on the weekend winning 5-2. Goals have been shared around for most part of the year, with forward Louise Raleigh, Elaenor Miller and Ava Stephens all having strong starts to the year and their finishing in front of goal has been great.
The Strikers sit in 2nd place on the ladder two points behind Hanwood FC but they find themselves four points clear of third place Henwood Park.
The team will be looking to keep winning games to stay in the top two and guarantee a second chance come finals time.
Coota times stand out players at the half way mark of the season are as follows.
Louise Raleigh. Has scored in every game she has played this year.
An attacking weapon who brings something different and the team will be looking for more goals to finish off the year.
Leila Maddox. Has been consistent in every game this year. Only young and new to senior football but plays a style of play that suits the Strikers and is a player to watch into the future.
Niketa Smart. Plays in the midfield and keeps the teams structure all game.
Is always there when her team needs her and never plays a bad game. Current ladder position: 2nd Prediction: Runners Up.
Although it’s been a great year so far it will take a massive effort to beat Griffth based club Hanwood FC. We look forward to watching this team come finals time. It could go either way on the day.
Cootamundra Strikers U15/16 Mid Season Review
The Cootamundra Strikers U15/16 had a much-needed win on the weekend, accounting for Wagga United 4-1 on the road. It was a real team performance on the weekend and a result that will give them confidence to finish the season strong.
The team has had a fair season so far. Currently sitting in fourth place on the ladder with two wins a draw and a bye.
One thing the team has not managed to do is record back to back victories which is something they will be chasing in weeks to come.
It’s the first year for many of the players in this competition and it’s been a great building year as they push for a finals berth.
Cootamundra Times stand out players at the halfway mark of the season are as follows: Harrison Fallon. Has been a standard week in week out.
Leads the team well from the midfield, had stepped up to play seniors most weeks and will take that experience to push this team for the second half of the year.
Riley Mills. Crowd favourite at O’Connor Park this year. Every time he touches the ball something good comes from it. Like Fallon has played seniors this year and will be looking to finish the year strong for his team.
Jacob Goulden. Goalkeeper who has made some big saves this year. Plays with his heart on his sleeve every week and has been a stand out every week.
Current position: 4th Prediction: Runners up.
It’s been a consistent season so far from the young Strikers squad and it’s a lot to build on for the second half of the season. Will need to improve to challenge the top teams but are good enough to play finals football.
Mid-Season Review Cootamundra Strikers U/14
It was a tough day out on Saturday for the U/14 team, going down 6-0 to top of the table Henwood Park.
Harry Simons was again a standout player. Having a strong game in the midfield. Their defence was under the pump all game, but they never gave up and will be looking to turn things around this weekend.
Coach Mick Simons has done a great job with the young squad, guiding them from the southwest slopes’ competition into Football Wagga and there has been some great signs on the pitch and the future looks bright for the years to come.
Simons has brought in a playing style that is built on strong structure, players holding their position and it’s been a learning curve for all the players.
They currently sit fifth on the table but are equal fourth on goal difference.
It’s a big game this weekend for the team as they come up against the team that is one position higher on the table, Lake Albert sharks. who they defeated 6-3 in round 2.
The team’s goal is to play finals football this year. They have 4 of their last 5 games at home which is a big boost, and we are looking forward to some positive results to come.

Sophie Sannazzaro. A real classy player. Passing game sets up her team and very rarely makes a bad pass. Has built a strong combination with Harry Simons in the midfield as they look to build on this in the second half of the season.
Harry Simons. Has been the backbone of the team in the midfield. Is a hard-working player who never gives up. Players look to Harry for leadership and direction and has a great head on his shoulders.
Eamon Sutherland. Plays on the wing and has speed to burn. Always available for a through ball and works back to help defence when asked to. A player everyone wants on their team.
Current Ladder position. 5th Coota Times Prediction: 3rd.
A team that could go all the way if some luck goes their way. We believe they will climb the ladder and their back half of there season will be strong.
