The Southern Highlands Club were in dire straits in their match against Albury on Sunday. A 60 run partnership at the 8th wicket saved the side from what looked like certain defeat.
The Harden Hornets will be hosting Boorowa in the final match of the regular season. The Hornets will be hoping to get revenge on a strong Boorowa side who when at Boorowa, hit the leather in to the adjoining creek, on no less than four occasions.
Club Captain and main man, Kelvin Brown is hopeful of putting together a good side, but is realistic that the Volleyball competition will rob them of a few players.
He said, “If we could put the side out that we did last week every week, we would be close to the top of the competition. Boorowa have some handy batsmen in Canellis and Carmody. It will be an interesting game, we will be up for the challenge but we will find out Saturday night. If we lose we are out and if we win we will go in to a semi final, but we won’t know until other results come in as the top three teams are all within a couple of points of each other.
Kelvin highlighted the hosting of the NSW Country Plate which was held at Tim Doolan Oval. “Highlands won with one over to spare. They put on a 60 run partnership. They were once 8 for 58 and needed to get 125. The ground and pitch and facilities were in great order. NSW cricket have rated it as one of the best grounds in southern NSW. We had an U15s match there also last year. The ground is in immaculate condition and the pitch is up to the standard of one of the best in the district.
Check out next week’s Times to see if the Hornets season will pan out any further.
