Lisa Dean Manager of Harden Murrumburrah Community Bank Branch is excited about the upcoming show.

The Harden Community Bank Show is going ahead this Saturday at the Murrumburrah Showground, putting up a massive $10,000 first prize for the open quick shear and a total of $20,000 for the competition. The Harden Community Bank Show wanted to let the community know it is cash only at the gate. Andrew Jones, President of the Harden Show Society, is hoping for a huge crowd and said it’s cash only to get in the gate. The Times spoke to Andrew who let us know what will be available at the show on Saturday.

“We have dog high jump, dachshund race, duck races, the pavilion, sheep judging, wood chop, full bar facilities and side shows. “We have over 20 grand in cash and prizes for the quick shear. There are people everywhere talking about it. We might even get a few international entries with people coming over from New Zealand to try and take it out. It should be a good thing for people to watch.”

There are three categories in the Harden Red Devils quick shear which starts at 1:00pm. Novice with a first prize of $500, intermediate with a first prize of $1,000 and the $10,000 prize for the open category. The dachshund dash, starting at 2:30pm, gets a $250 grand prize. At 7:00pm there will be the dog high jump which will give out a $100 prize per class. “The dog high jump we’ve had before but this time we have new people in to run it. They’ll run the whole event, they have a good setup there which will be set up next to the wood chop and quick shear.

“[The show has] been running for years, this is my fifth of sixth year as President. “The fireworks will go ahead no matter what. Fireworks are at 8:30 pm.” The Times recently received news from Murrumburrah High School about their success at the Illabo Show and Murrumburrah High School students winning lamb will be fully dressed by Ziem’s Butchery and available for auction at the event. One of the show’s most notable functions is their auction for the naming rights each year which went to Bendigo Bank, naming it Harden Community Bank Show.

Evelyn Shea, Acting Chair of the Bendigo Bank Harden Board, said it was an opportunity for the bank to support the community. “It’s important that a community bank that is here for the community supports community events, as chair…it’s important for us to stand up and say this is our community and a show that comes to the tow we need to support

“It is an avenue for children and families to show off merchandise, farming equipment and supplies and stock. It’s something the children in the town might not see every day and the older adults like to revisit what’s happening in the district. When we look at the amenities there and the pavilion, the artwork, it’s such a community event we should all take part in and support to get to meet and greet people we may not have seen all year.”

“We are very excited. We also support and run the pavilion so its low cost so people can more cheaply display their wares and cakes. It’s an area we feel that we should support so its low cost. Our bank is here for our community forever and we need to let people know that.”
