The Silo Art Festival, which was set to be held on October but was unfortunately cancelled due to wet weather, will now finally open its doors at Mill Park in Murrumburrah on Sunday. The Silo Art Festival is a hands-on event for parents and children alike and will run from 10am to 3pm, with artists on hand to encourage learning and action techniques. There will be many instant art competitions for young and old throughout the day and will reflect the community’s move towards a higher level of artistic achievement and help to encourage local artists and musicians.

The family-friendly arts day encourages people to get involved with art, with Harden-Murrumburrah holding an abundance of talented artists. The Sile Art Festival began when the Harden/Murrumburrah Arts Council secured an NSW Government Grant to artistically paint the reverse side of the Murrumburrah Silo Artworks. They also received support from the government for a new event, to celebrate the completion of the silo artworks, called the Silo Art Fest. The Silo Art Fest was originally to be held on Sunday 9th October, the day after the Harden Kite Festival (Sat 8th October).

Greg Medway, one of the organisers of the Silo Art Festival in Harden, said he is excited for next month’s event and all the festivities it will bring to the town. “Part of the Hilltops Art Trail, the Silo Art Fest finally arrives, after being postponed from last October due to the torrential rain that occurred,” Greg said. “Now, because of its date, the Silo Art Fest became part of the Hilltops Art Trail, which is a promotion done by the Southern Tablelands Arts Council and Hilltops Council.

“They’ve got three or four free buses on Saturday, 11 March, that leaves from outside the Harden-Murrumburrah Tourism Centre and heads off to Galong, Boorowa and Wombat. “Street Art will be performed live at the festival on the “street art wall” by two Australian and internationally acclaimed street artists, Damien Mitchell and Luke Vineburg. “It is a festival for all forms of art and the festival encourages families to participate in all the art events: First Nation Weaving, Patina Alchemy, Paint Pour, Sculpture, Leather Art, Paper Making, Artworks, and Street Art. “Also, there will be the Bush Band, gold panning, and poetry reading. Food will be available including the all-day sausage sizzle, fresh cakes and coffee and the ice-cream cart.” For any enquiries about the upcoming Silo Art Festival, contact Greg Medway on 0487028657.
