Emma Luscombe (nee Byrne) has taken out the ACT Young Business Woman of the Year Award at the Canberra Business Awards held at Hotel Realm in Barton on Wednesday 20 August.

Emma beat over 100 other nominated women and received a trophy, plaque and a list of prizes for her efforts.

When asked why she had been successful she said, “I’m pretty sure that it’s because I’m from the country I don’t shy away from hard work. It doesn’t matter if you’re from a small town with a small population you can have a go and make it, if you work hard.”

Emma moved to Canberra when she was 14 years of age. She finished her apprenticeship in 2005 and lived overseas for a while before coming back to Canberra to teach at the CIT in the city.

Emma and husband Travis had their first daughter, Annabelle, in 2011 and purchased their first salon in the city soon after.

In April 2013 they bought another at Bonner and a third in Wanniassa in April 2014. They have also had another daughter Matilda, who is now 11 months old.

Emma said that they wanted a nice work/life balance and have moved back to Harden meaning that she commutes most days to Canberra.

When asked if she was planning to open any more salons, she said, “Not in the near further.”

On Thursday she became a global colourist for Aveda which mean she is now accredited to work all over the world.

Congratulations Emma, there is no doubt we will be hearing more from you in the future.

Emma is the daughter of Tim Byrne and the granddaughter of Marie Byrne of Harden.
