Harden’s very own Wallaroo Grace Kemp is preparing for the Women’s Rugby World Cup to be held in New Zealand’s Eden Park with competition commencing tomorrow for The Australian team.
The 21-year-old rise from the Harden Red Devils to the yellow and gold has been meteoric. Grace has been able to mix her physical attributes with her speed and hone her skillset in attack but just as importantly her defence.
Grace said, “From Harden Red Devils Juniors to a Women’s Rugby World Cup. Every game, training session, road trip, late night and early morning has led to now.
“Different teams, experiences and connections along the way have made this little girl’s dream a reality.”
Grace Kemp will run out onto the grounds wearing “Poppy Bill” on her boots in honour of her grandfather who has recently passed.
The first match the Wallaroos will play is against New Zealand on Saturday at 5:15 pm before taking on Scotland the week after on Saturday at 1 pm, finishing off the trio of games against Wales the following Saturday at 12:15 pm.
Grace Kemp has been making headlines for weeks especially after Grace took home the Louise Ferris medal at the ACT Brumbies presentation night which is the top award available there.
It was the 2nd consecutive year Grace had won the medal.
Though the Brumbies ladies had a rather difficult season as a whole finishing fourth from the six teams in the Super W, Grace has been dominant once again which is exemplified from her selection to the Wallaroos.
The Brumbies didn’t have the season they wanted this year, finishing fourth out of six in the Super W but Grace Kemp still stood out as a star player especially after her Wallaroos selection.
When Grace isn’t playing for the Brumbies or Wallaroos, she makes her trade playing for the Canberra Royals.
The Royals are one of Canberra’s most prestigious Rugby Union clubs, with the first-grade men’s and women’s teams both making the Grand Final this year.
Unfortunately, they did not find the success they hoped for, both the sides went down with Grace’s side losing 12-10 and the men’s team losing 27-11.
