The Harden Red Devils travelled far to face-off against the West-Wyalong Weevils and left victorious 30-12.
It was a successful day for the Devils as they had two wins on the day which will certainly boost morale ahead of this week’s game against the Boorowa Goldies.
It was a tight game of rugby from the early moments, however, the Devils were the first to score with a try from Ben Lenehan early in the game to pave the way for Harden’s victory. The Devils piled on the points throughout with tries from Max O’Connor who filled in at number 8 and Tom Lenehan.
In the latter stages of the game, Harden wasn’t letting any try left unscored with another try from Ben Lenehan and Noah Stuart. Harden went off the field with five tries on the day while the Weevils only left with two. Senior player Charlie Brown was very happy with the result on the day.
“We had a lot of people out of position and that sort of thing,” he said.
“Everyone handled things very well and we got the job done which was very pleasing.”
This week the Harden Red Devils face the Boorowa Goldies on their home ground at Robert’s Park with a ladies day happening alongside it.
Harden has a tough hill to climb in the coming weeks especially if their goal is to win the competition.
According to Charlie Brown Harden hasn’t lost a game in five years to Young or Boorowa, making this the first year they have lost to both.
But that doesn’t phase the Devils player going into the latter stages of the competition.
“Everyone’s pumped up and full of confidence. Everyone’s raring to go.”
“We’re very disappointed to go down in the first game. They’re a very quality team. Losing is never fun. It’s not something you want to continue to do.”
Harden will be cheering their local team this Saturday at Harden Rugby Club with kick-off at 3:15pm
