Mollie played under 18’s, Amelia and Amber played under 16’s while Talia played under 14’s, in a massive day for the four girls.
Brumbies Country is a tournament facilitating teams across Australia and giving young rugby players a chance to perform for a wider audience.
It’s a feat in itself to play in the tournament especially for the women’s side as it is a relatively new addition.
They all played four teams, including Illawarra, Victoria, Northern Territory and the ACT.
The under 14’s beat the ACT 42-7, lost to Victoria 15-5, beat Illawarra 36-5 and then went into the finals against Victoria where they lost 15-5.
The under 16’s lost 36-10 to the ACT, lost 35-0 to Illawarra, won 27-7 to NT and lost 24-5 to Victoria.
The under 18’s lost to the ACT 22-10, lost to Illawarra 36-5 and lost to Victoria 26-5. Sarah Rowan, mother of Amelia thought the scores did not reflect the physicality of the games.
“The girls weren’t walkovers, they put up a solid defence and worked really hard as a team,” she said.
“Their combinations and their gameplay were fantastic. It’s a really good experience for them though, just to see how that next level of rugby flows.”
“It was an amazing tournament. It was a really big eye-opener for the girls. It was encouraging for the girls to see that there are lots more girls out there playing high-level rugby.”
Mollie Glover who played in the under 18’s side was ecstatic to play such high calibre rugby.
“It was so different especially because I’m used to sevens and tens and not working as a full 15-person squad, It was absolutely phenomenal,” she said.
“It’s just still so crazy. I’ve got gear lying around and every time I see it, I’m like ‘I did that’. That was so cool.”
“The second last one just before the grand final, I got a tear in my muscle that runs across the front of my thigh. It was a bit hard to walk on. I had a limp for a couple of days but it’s all right now.”
