The Harden Worhawks, our ladies Rugby League tackle side have made huge improvements to their game over the last few years.

Saturday saw them host the Queanbeyan Blues in the Katrina Fanning competition.

The competition is made up of some very good sides who have large catchments to gather players in. There’s Tuggeranong, Woden,

Queanbeyan, Yass, Goulburn, South Coast, UC Stars and the Boomanulla Raiders, all along with our little twin town of Harden Murrumburrah.

Woden defeated Tuggeranong 28- 14, Yass hosted Goulburn running out winners 30-18. South Coast welcomed the UC Stars and held on to an 8-0 lead while Boomanulla had a bye.

This left Harden to host Queanbeyan who came ready to play. They had big forwards, agile backs and plenty of speed to burn. Our ladies were not de- terred.

After conceding a converted try, the Worhawks went on the attack and pinned the Blues down in their own end, where they forced repeated scrums, drop outs and held on to great field position.

The Harden ladies gave as good as they got in defence and had to con- tend with some very hard running for- wards from the Blues.

For much of the first half Harden kept the score low before the Blues ran away with it in the second half.

The Worhawks proved that this year from round one they are prepared to play patient and controlled Rugby League and that they have the skills to match it with some of the best sides.

Although they didn’t get over the try line themselves they fought for the entire game and will be a thorn in the side of plenty of teams this year.

Tries for Queanbeyan went to Krystyana Haridemos, Klaudia Os- ztrenkvics (2)
Teliya Hetaraka (2) Gaelle Noelle Alakame Anzong (2) and Payge- Louise Condon.

The latter kicked 6 from 6 conver- sions for a final scoreline of 44-0. Harden will head to Woden this Satur- day for round 2 of the competition where they will play an early game against the Rams at 9:30am. This year’s Worhawks play a tough and en- tertaining style of Rugby League and they are certainly worth watching. They will be home to Tuggeranong the following Saturday at Midday.

Make a day of it and support all of the Harden sides, you won’t be disappointed.
