Harden Murrumburrah Junior Rugby League are running an online jersey auction as a part of their fundraiser for 2021.
The jerseys were meant to be a part of the club’s Purple Day on August 14 but the day was unfortunately cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak and lockdown in Canberra.
The club’s two oldest age groups, under 13’s tackle and under 16’s leaguetag, were due to wear the jerseys with the remaining that were not purchased by players as well as spares were put up for auction.
The auction was meant to be held at the Harden Country Club after the day of footy but when New South Wales went into lockdown, the club decided that the easiest way to auction off the remaining jerseys was to hold an online auction on Facebook.
As well as a fundraiser for the club some of the money from the auction will be donated to the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation.
Harden Murrumburrah Junior League President Kai Steele said “We have been holding this event annually for at least 10 years and for the last few years we have been donating money to the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation.”
This year the jerseys have an Indigenous theme which was designed by committee member Guy Abnett which incorporates both the Harden Murrumburrah and Boorowa townships together.
Up for auction there are 8 footy jerseys and 10 leaguetag shirts, the money raised will go to both the club and the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation.
There is also another jersey and leaguetag shirt being auctioned off with all proceeds going to the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, these jerseys are available for viewing through the glass at the entrance of the Harden Country Club.
The club also donated one jersey to the Greg Whitehead Fishing Challenge.
Another leaguetag shirt will also be auctioned off with all proceeds going to the Boorowa Club to show Harden’s appreciation for their support on the day.
The auction is currently underway and is scheduled to finish Monday September 6 at 6pm.
“Hopefully we get some support from the community and auction off all the jerseys.” Kai said.
If you are interested in bidding on these jerseys you can do so by visiting the Purple Jersey Auction event on the Harden Murrumburrah Junior League Facebook page and commenting your bid on the jersey you wish to buy.
If you are unable to bid through Facebook you can contact Kai Steele on 0400 759 011 and the bid will be placed on your behalf.
Please note that no bids will be taken after 6pm on Monday September 6.
