Several hundred spectators spent Sunday at the Harden Racecourse for the Centenary of the First Airmail Flight in Australia.
Organisers were greeted by thick fog which delayed some of the pilots, however a total of 12 aircraft landed over the course of the day. There were plenty of food and beverage stalls as well as displays of antique cars, scale model aeroplanes and historic memorabilia.
Pilot Tom Lockley thanked the town of Harden for turning out for the event. He said “Its places like Harden that keep the traditions of Australia going”. He went on to thank his fellow pilots especially Owen Zupp for carrying the modern letters in his craft and for helping with the reenactment.
Monday morning saw plenty of planes in the sky as the pilots who had stayed overnight at the Carrington Hotel flew out and viewed the district before continuing on their path to Goulburn.
