Year 12 students at Hennessy Catholic College had a fairy tale ending to their schooling career when they celebrated their graduation dinner last Thursday with parents, teaching staffs and peers.
With a cohort of 60 students, seven were from Harden, these were Zach Sommer, Charlie Madden, Kathy Holding (Principal), Olivia Doolan, Rosemaree Irving, Ebony Ulrick and Bridie Minehan.
It has been nothing short, but a challenging year for the graduating class with many changes to their learning experience and the disruption of opportunities this year.
It was nearly certain many months ago that formalities would not go ahead.
The resilience of the kids to get through this year has then become a credit to their efforts as last Monday parents were informed on the lifting of some restrictions which allowed them to attend the graduation dinner.
And with HSCs wrapped up last Wednesday, it was the icing on the cake with the dinner the following day and the good news of parents attending.
Held at the school’s hall the night began at 6pm and concluded at 10pm.
A cohort photo was taken before dinner, the boys were in suits and the girls were all dolled up.
On the night, each student was called up on stage and words were spoken about each one of them.
A three-course meal was served followed by the cutting of a cake, the hall was decorated and a DJ was present with kids allowed to dance.
Olivia Doolan’s mum Julie was present on the night and she said parents are appreciative to the staff and caterers for making the night happen.
“It was great because the kids had a challenging year. It was great to be able to celebrate their final graduation dinner with them and we were just so thrilled to get the call on Monday,” she said.
Mrs Doolan also taught a number of the students when they were in Year 6 in Harden and she is proud to see them all beautifully dressed up on the night.
“To follow them through their journey and see them all dressed up and matured and ready to move on with the next chapter of their life, it was both rewarding and exciting,” she said.
