Harden SES Unit are now recruiting new members. You could be part of a great team as a Harden Unit Volunteer with NSW SES.
Acting Commander of the Harden SES Unit Garry Buckley said, “When you volunteer with the SES, you are helping the community and giving back to all kinds of people. There are so many different things you can do in the SES.
It doesn’t matter what age you are, whether you are retired or a young person that wants to give back to the Harden community, anyone is welcome.”
There are lots of roles that you can do depending on what you like and what you want to learn. Whether providing on-the-ground support, assisting in operational support roles or raising community awareness through education programs, there are many ways to be part of NSW SES.
Every NSW SES volunteer is part of a team of over 9,300 highly-trained professionals across the state who share a commitment to helping their communities. NSW SES volunteers come from all walks of life and bring a wide range of skills, experiences and backgrounds to the roles they perform.
Garry said, “One of the reasons I joined for is the certified training you receive, and you get to put that training into practice. The training is awesome, you get to meet new people and make a lot of new friends. I didn’t think I would be able to do what I have done at the age I am, they do test you and they do it quite well, its a great challenge.”
NSW SES has a spectrum of membership options and includes members who attend training every week, to those who maintain their skills and attend only when required. It includes members with specific skills, and members who have a more diverse skillset. The spectrum is broad to encourage a diverse volunteer workforce with the skills and experience required to meet community needs.
Garry mentioned that there are also opportunities to do out of area work from time to time. “With the fires Harden did quite a bit of work to help affected areas. They were also called, to help with the hailstorm in Canberra alongside Yass and Young Units recently.”
