Sharon Hawkins who has very ably run the Harden Murrumburrah branch of the library will say farewell to the position on 20 December. To mark the occasion Sharon is providing a morning tea at 11am that day and she hopes she will be able to see as many borrowers as possible before she retires. Sharon began work in a casual position in 2007 and moved into the fulltime spot in 2009.

During her time in the library Sharon has been instrumental in seeing the extensions to fruition, along with the attractive furnishings and children’s section which were achieved by way of a grant in 2013. Sharon said, “I took solace in the library after I lost my beloved Ralph suddenly and I was overwhelmed by the support I received from the people of the twin towns”.

She said she was even allowed to bring her dog Simmy to work for a period of time. Over the years she has organised author talks, kids activities for schools and Bunyip Preschool, talking Books as well as talks with local residents.

One could say she has a special and very obliging relationship with her borrowers. She has been known to choose books for residents of the local nursing home and those who can’t make it to the library and then deliver some to these very appreciative people in her own time.

Sharon provides assistance with the NSW Service Kiosk and Centrelink for those who need help. Sharon will be remaining in Harden and says she will do Driver Reviver with the SES and volunteer at the Tourist Information Office. She said she would like to do a little travelling but most importantly she will become a borrower. We thank Sharon for her service and wish her well for the future. Sharon, you will be missed!
