The Scott Spackman trained Cryfowl has won back to back Harden Picnic Cups, taking out the Graymont – Nathan Schofield Carpentry Cup, over 1400 metres at Harden today.
Cryfowl was backing up from an 11th place at Wagga last start in a benchmark 58 over 1300 metres. The 6 year old gelding owned by Mr N R Taylor with other interests in Boorowa, was too good for the 7 horse field at Harden in blustery conditions.
Cryfowl beat home Georgian Court by .67 of a length and Tearful Kitty who came home in 3rd place.

Spackman, family and connections were ecstatic with the horse’s performance.
Scott said, “It’s awesome, it’s just means everything to us, for this horse to do what he did, it’s just unbelievable. This horse ran at Wagga and we just had to forget it, he has turned around and gone back to back. Chance Affair won two years in a row. It’s a pretty mean feat. A minute later the little mare won at Albury.”
Chance Affair is the only other horse to have gone back to back in the Harden Cup. It won the race in 95 and 96. Spackman rode Money Road for his family in 93 and Money Road came second to Chance Affair twice.
The show must continue for the Spackman stable, Scott said, “I wish I was staying the night but I’ve gotta head back.”
Spackman Racing rounded day out there day with Blazen Diamond placing 2nd in the Barlens Benchmark 66 Handicap over 1400 metres at Albury. Takissacod made it 3 wins in a row after the 3 year old bay filly won the Baxters Concrete Class 2 Handicap over 1500 metres. ‘Kissa’ was midfield before hitting the front at the 100 metre mark and held off Magpie by the slimmest of margins of just 0.05 lengths. She has now won at Grenfell, Wagga and Albury.
