Hilltops Council received 40 formal requests for information via the Government Information Public Access (GIPA) in 2018-2019. An increase of 100% on the 2017-2018 Financial year.
According to Hilltops Council,1 application was referred to a government agency, 37 applications were granted in full, 1 application was granted in part and 1 application was refused in full. Council dealt with all applications within the statutory timeframe. The Council is not required to report on informal applications.
According to Council’s ‘Community Strategic Plan Linkage’ Council is to “Provide ethical, proactive & effective leadership & governance. 3.1 Undertake Council activities within a clear framework of legislative compliance. 3.2 Make decisions in a transparent and accountable manner for the benefit of the community.
According to Hilltops Council, access was granted in full to 27 requests from members of the public, 9 from Private Sector Businesses and 1 from members of the public via legal representation.

As part of its function the IPC:
- promotes and protects privacy and information access rights in NSW and provides information, advice, assistance and training for agencies and individuals on privacy and access matters
- reviews the performance and decisions of agencies and investigates and conciliates complaints relating to public sector agencies, health service providers (both public and private) and some large organisations that deal with health information
- provides feedback about the legislation and relevant developments in the law and technology.
