Danny and Glen Conquer Crossfit

Danny Flanery and Glen Howe have returned from Melbourne after a week of State, National and International Crossfit competition. Danny competed in the 45-50 age group while Glen competed in the over 60s category. Conditions were cold and the sun only came out for about an hour during the event. Glen placed first in Australia after being narrowly beaten by 2 New Zealand athletes to finish 3rd overall in his category. He defeated an opponent who had previously beaten him from Victoria.

Glen said, “Danny was wonderful, he was lifting 15 kilos above his personal best. He was up against some monsters. Pound for pound he was the strongest there, he was very impressive. He finished up first in the ACT region.” Always understated about his achievements, Glen was a little coy about representing his country.

Danny said, “He went really well, he had to wear an Australian T’shirt with his name on the back, he didn’t like that one little bit, but I think they made him wear it in the end.” A number of supporters went from Harden in Michelle and Olivia Howe and Keith and Sue Smith. Glen said, “It was good fun, a great experience. We are going to try and get other people to come in with us. We just train and do what we do. We have some young kids coming up which is great.”

Glen attributed his success to Danny, who helped motivate him and pushed him towards the competitive side of the sport. Out of the 240 contestants Danny finished 22nd while Glen finished 44th. For any youngsters looking to gauge their fitness before the 2020 sports season, it may be a good idea to get in contact with Danny and Glen, who are no doubt 2 of the fittest people in the Twin Towns.
