Harden’s Oscar Forsyth at McLean Oval on Monday.

18 year old Oscar Forsyth with be lining up for the Gundagai Tigers in Saturday’s U19s Grand Final at Wagga.

Oscar played for the Hawks in the U17s and the U19s over the last few seasons and decided to head to Gundagai for the 2019 season with Harden not fielding a 19s side.

Oscar first played for the Hawks in U11s before playing soccer for a couple of seasons.

Like many footballers he has been on both the winning and losing side of Rugby League. In the U15s his side didn’t win a game. Since then, he has made 3 Grand Finals, with his 4th Grand Final in a row set down for Saturday. In U16s he played for Coota before returning to Harden where he played U19s. He was 16 turning 17 when he lined up for the Hawks and got to play with his older brother Harrison. Oscar said, “It was really good to play in the same team as Harrison, it was really cool.”

Oscar said, “Our team folded last year, I looked at Young but Gundagai was pretty close to home. I have been playing Front Row and Lock. I never played those positions before, I was normally in the Centres or Second Row.”

Oscar regularly hits the gym and weighs around the mid 80s, which might explain his move closer in the pack.

When Gundagai last met their Grand Final opponents, Young, the match was a fiery encounter. Oscar said, “We only had two subs the first time we played them and the second match we had a lot of players who played while they were sick. It’s definitely going to be a tough game, there will be plenty of aggression.”

Oscar  is currently studying a diploma in Sport and Rec Management and hopes to take up further studies  in 2020.

His mum Kellie, has been an integral part of his football and he made sure to thank her. Oscar said, “Thank you so much for sitting in the cold on the sideline and cheering me on for all those years.”

Oscar’s side will be joined by 2 other Gundagai sides on Grand Final Day and will be coming up against Young in all 3. Kick off for the U19s is at 10:55am at McDonalds Park in Wagga

Best of luck to Oscar and his team.
