Murrumburrah High School students have been designing and installing their Memorial Garden around the current flag poles on the Smith Street side of the school. The year 11 Primary Industries class is leading the project which will be a valuable addition to the school. Rosemary has been planted and will be very useful around Remembrance Day, while red crushed granite will surround the poles and a boulder will sit either side of the path. Bronze plaques will name those who have contributed to the project The existing power supply will be used to light up the flag poles overnight and will provide an excellent visual feature for the school. Jan Young said, “We can keep our flags flying at night time as part of the protocols. It will also allow the school to hold their own Memorial and Anzac Day services.” Members of Harden Rotary will be mentoring the students through the project. Jan said, “The students enjoy getting out and doing the work and by giving the kids ownership of the project they look after it in to the future.” Soil fill will be needed to complete the project which is continuing to take shape. The Times will be following this valuable project.
