Wagga trainer Scott Spackman is preparing O’ So Hazy for the $1.3 million dollar Kosciuszko race at Randwick on October 13.

Former local horse trainer Scott Spackman is celebrating after one of his stable’s stars O’ So Hazy secured a spot in The Kosciuszko at Randwick next month. The Wagga-based sprinter will compete in the 1200m, $1.3 million race, after Scott inked a deal with Eamon Gormley, a Sydney-based slot holder. The mare will go up against the best of Country NSW’s sprinters, as part of Everest Day at Royal Randwick. O’ So Hazy’s last run was Warwick Farm, earlier this month, where she finished 11th over 1200m, in a field of 13. Scott said that despite early reservations, the mare had well and truly proved herself since. “I wasn’t a big wrap on her early, but for her to be doing what she’s been doing and get us to the spots where she’s taken us it’s just unbelievable,” he said. With the race just three weeks away, Scott is in the process of finalising preparations in the lead-up, with an exhibition gallop or barrier trial next Saturday both possible. “She knows where the line is, we’ve just got to get her there 100% on the day … and when we turn for home they’ll know we’re there.”

His 4 year old mare will carry the lightest weight in the weight-for-age race and is currently sitting on odds of $26.

The Kosciuszko is the world’s richest race for country trained horses and is held on Everest Day at Royal Randwick.
