NSW TrainLink will be improving travel times between Young and Sydney with the introduction of an

extra daily bus service from Young to Cootamundra commencing on Sunday 17 June 2018. The

service will depart the Young Visitor Information Centre and arrive at Cootamundra Rail Station in

time for the XPT service to Sydney.

This will reduce the wait at Cootamundra Station to less than fifteen minutes when transferring between coach and train services.

Hilltops Mayor Brian Ingram is excited about the trial and asks that residents support the service to

ensure that it becomes permanent “This daily service will help link our regional community to major

capitals such as Sydney and Melbourne and make the offerings of the city much more accessible to

our residents.

“I would encourage the community to utilise the service during the trial period to ensure that it

becomes a permanent addition to the timetable which will benefit our community and help narrow

the gap between regional and metropolitan areas” Mayor Ingram said.

The decision has angered some local residents who view the Harden Station as the gateway to the Hilltops. The Harden station suffers from several factors including, infrequent cleaning of amenities and disposal of dead pigeons as well as not being actively manned by rail staff.

A service bringing residents from Young to Harden may have been able to apply pressure to upgrade services at Harden Station.

The trial coach service will operate in addition to the existing coach services that provide a

connection to the XPT to and from Melbourne. The extra coach service will also provide another

option for locals travelling between Young and Cootamundra. Fares will be in line with the existing

NSW TrainLink services with concessions available.

Bookings can be made by visiting www.transportnsw.info/regional , by phoning 13 22 32 or by

visiting a NSW TrainLink accredited sales outlet including the Young Visitor Information Centre.
