To the Editor: I participated in a visit on the 3rd January to our district by members of 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art. This is the second visit for Michael Do and Jason Phu who are working on ideas for an artist installation regarding the history of the Chinese in our district. The ideas are coming together and they were joined by John Young from Melbourne and Mikala Tai of 4A (formerly from Melbourne). This visit included viewing a video and talk regarding the Chinese at Lambing Flat at Gold Experience (Barnes Store) with Stephen Byrne and myself. I later took the group for a walk and talk at our Chinese Cemetery where John was able to read some script on headstones which was quite revealing. The next day they were to meet Sandra Jenner at Lambing Flat Museum in Young and Brad Thorsby at Currawong Station. The group were very appreciative of the efforts to tell the stories of the Chinese and keep the history alive. I look forward to the announcement of the final format of the groups work – it may be a structure or a play. Robyn Atherton, Harden.
