Murrumburrah High School is celebrating the achievements of Megan Sharman, who has been named the school’s Dux following a stellar effort in the HSC. Megan, the daughter of locals Peter and Ann Sharman, received an outstanding ATAR of 82. She accomplished two band 6’s in Senior Science and General Mathematics, and a place on the distinguished achievers list.
One of 7 students who completed Year 12 at the High School, Megan also studied Drama, Advanced English and PDH PE. The fantastic result comes after months of hard work and preparation by Megan, who spent every school day in the lead-up to her exams studying at the library. Megan went into the exams “very nervous,” faced with a timetable that proved rather hectic, with four of her exams occurring in the first four days of the period. Diligence and hard-work, however, would ensure that Megan proved successful in her exams, with her giving special thanks to those staff who helped.
“The school was definitely a great help, the teachers were very passionate about it, that’s the great thing about smaller classes, they are able care genuinely about each of us,” Megan said. With her results, Megan has gained admission to the University of Canberra, for a Bachelor of Science. Although she currently hopes to attends the Australian National University, with a goal of competing a Bachelor of Biotechnology.
“Canberra is nice and close, and I’ve got family there, my brother Brad’s been very excited, he actually took me to the open days and showed me around” In the meantime, however, Megan will continue working at the Harden Pharmacy, and plans to travel to England for 6 months next year, hopefully to work as a nanny. “I’d love to go sightseeing through Europe.” Those around Megan, including family, friends and teachers are incredibly proud of her achievements, and are excited for what the future holds for such a promising individual.
