Young Woman Of The Year 2023 entrants, Michelle Fairall, Grace Kemp, Angel Leitner and Harden Show Committee member Linda Jones.

The Harden Show will be ready to go on Saturday November 16 and what a show it will be with plenty planned for circa 2024.

President Andrew Jones said, “It’s shaping up well and we are trying to be accommodating for everyone in the community.”

“It will be more cost effective. We want a show that the whole town can attend without spending massive amounts of money.

“There will be free kids events from 1pm. We have camel rides and Fairy La-La will be doing shows from 1pm through until the fireworks, which is a free event for everyone as well.

“The Fairy show is suitable for boys and girls. It was very popular when we had it a few years ago.

“We have the quick shear and we have $10,000 for first prize in the opens. Sponsors will be on their singlets, and we announce them throughout the day. The major sponsor is Hilltops Diesel.

“There will be plenty of marquees and shade and it will be located next to the wood chop (where it was last year).

“The chooks, horses and show dogs are back. The dog high jump is near the secretary’s office and that is part of the evening show, along with the Dachshund race which is sponsored by Matt and Mel from DC Flooring.

“The fireworks will be at 8.30pm.

“We are promoting it as an afternoon, evening show and there will be food there so people don’t have to go home and come back.

The 3:00pm time slot will allow patrons to spend 5 or so hours at the show and see everything, have dinner and watch the fireworks.

“There will be plenty of entertainment for people to enjoy right through.

“We still have all the traditional show stuff like the cattle, sheep, horses, pavilion etc, that will start in the morning, so we can get all the animals home.

This year will see a 100 club where Beggan Hill Herefords will bring a heifer in and wherever she decides to go number two, the money will go to you.

“The committee has been working tirelessly to get some extra rides to the show.

“That has been my biggest gripe since I’ve been in it, eight or nine years. We have been building the show towards the evening thing and being more cost effective for the community and having the fireworks at the end but the only thing we haven’t been able to get consistently is rides.

“That is out of our control. You have to be part of the Guild.

“It’s been the biggest thing since I’ve been there is trying to get rides for the community.

“When I was a young fella there used to be heaps there and the show was one of the best days of the year.

“This generation has been let down by that and it is simply out of our control and I’m trying to get it back to how it used to be so the Show is one day that everyone looks forward to.

“We are going above and beyond to get the rides back.

“The Ringers Western truck will be there as well and that is something different that we haven’t had before.

“I know it’s a little bit hotter in November, but it’s more of the Christmas feel and all the showmen and entertainment are on their run home and looking to finish off on a high and we are trying to capitalise on that.

“If we can get more people through the gate, that is where we make our money and can then make it bigger each year.

“There will be family passes available for pre-sale but they won’t be available on the day. Memberships are also available for $30, which includes a member ticket and two guest tickets.

“The Woodchop starts at 11am, the Quick Shear at 1pm, the grand opening is at 3.30pm.

“From that 3.30pm-4pm onwards there will be the final of the quick shear, the Dachshund race, the dog high jump, the team challenge and all that sort of stuff.

“There will also be full bar facilities available.

There is a good chance that a pie eating contest will also be held at the show for the first time, with 24 places up for grabs in a first in first served sign up basis. This will result in 4 heats of 6 people, with the winner of each heat going through to a 4 person final. The number of pies needed to be consumed in total if you make the final, could be in the vicinity of between 4 and 6. Quickest is the winner.

Happy eating
