A grass fire on Substation Rd just west of Harden-Murrumburrah was attended to on Sunday morning by local brigades. The fire was extinguished after it had burnt a small area of scrub.
Andrew Dillon, District Manager for South West Slopes Zone Rural Fire Services Zone, gave the Twin Town Times an exclusive interview about the fire.
“It appears that the powerline started the fire and we had five brigades respond, or five tankers from three individual brigades who attended the job coupled with two group captains.
“They extinguished the fire in approximately half an hour. It burned about a hectare and a half. It was a direct attack, being mindful of any risk with electrical infrastructure on sight. They were able to attack it safely and put out the fire.
“Thankfully, we haven’t had a lot of fires in the Harden area, Boorowa was quite busy over the weekend. There is a risk of fire heading into high fire danger rating days. This Saturday also looks like high fire danger so it’s important you remain aware and have a plan if a fire were to break out.
“It’s important for people to monitor hazards near me in the app, it has really useful information about fires. We do map fires so people understand where the fires are. It’s a great app to stay in touch and the NSW RFS public website has great information as well.
“With all this lightning we’ve had, landowners and people on the land following lightning activities, can get out there and have a look and inspect the properties to see if there are any trees ignited from lightning. If you need help, ring triple 0 and we can send a few trucks out to help you get the fire out.”
Congratulations to all involved on a speedy resolution.
