Those who enjoyed Bowning Hill Walk and are looking for their next outdoor community fix needn’t wait long, as the Bobbara Hill Walk is set to make its return this September.
After the great success of last year’s walk, the Binalong Public School P&C Association will again be holding the annual Bobbara Hill Walk, falling on Sunday the 10th of September from 9 am to 1 pm. Featuring a barbeque, drinks, and panoramic views of the blooming canola crops and the wider region.
The walk is set to be quite the social event for Bina-long, with previous walks pulling in hundreds from across the Yass Valley region and beyond.
Those who wish to enjoy the view, but are physically unable to make the trek needn’t fear, as buggy rides are available to transport residents to the top of the hill for $10 per person.
Yass Valley organisations such as the Lions Club are set to make an appearance, with the club providing a barbeque featuring steak and sausage sandwiches. Beverages including tea and coffee will also be available.
Building on from last year’s success, which saw an attendance of some 250 people from the region and beyond, Binalong P&C AssociationPresident Max Giles is excited for this year, hoping that the change in time of year will allow more lush green grass, better overall weather, and a chance to enjoy the blooming canola fields below.
“This is my second year as president and my second walk, but I think we had roughly 250 people through the gate last year.
The canola will be out in flower, which is one of the attractions, and it’s a 360-degree panoramic view from the top”, said Max.
“It’s testing for a few people but is absolutely worth getting to the top”.
As well as a fun, social community event, the walk also acts as a fundraiser for the Binalong P&C Association, with funds including the gold coin donation entry and additional expenses, such as the buggy rides, all directed towards Bowning Public School.
The walk also functions as an attraction to the town of Binalong, with previous walks drawing in people from outside the valley and injecting interest and commerce into the local economy.“It goes back into the kids. All the money that we’re raising goes to P&Cand back into the kid’s welfare at the school” he said.
“We try to pull a few things together so it injects people into the town where hopefully, they’ll look around and spend a bit of money.”
Looking forward to the community interest and hopeful for the day’s conditions, the Binalong P&C Associationextend a welcome to the residents of Yass Valley, simply stating;
“Come and enjoy the day, hopefully, it’ll be a lovely day, that’s all we can really ask for.”
