Harden Hawkettes’ superstar Georgia Smith has been selected to represent the New Zealand Exiles in the 2023 OzTag World Cup to be held in Limerick, Ireland this August.
Georgia’s class has once again been on full display this season, with her try tally sitting at 19, nearly double the amount of the second-placed try scorer in the competition.
Along with Georgia leading the competition in tries, she also miraculously leads the competition in points throughout the first eight rounds, which is unheard of for a non-goal-kicker.
The Hawkettes have once again sprung out of the gates in the George Tooke Shield League Tag season, remaining undefeated and sitting atop the ladder as they look to add yet another premiership to the mantle.
Speaking to the Times, Georgia was excited about the opportunity to play with and against some of the world’s best league taggers.
“I’ve been playing for the ACT side for the past couple of years now, then last year in November I was selected for nationals for the first time, then they selected teams off of that, after that, I got selected to play in Coffs Harbour again in March but by then they had selected the teams,” she said.
“I’m playing as non-heritage, they originally approached me thinking I might have a Kiwi background and though I don’t, they took me on as one of their non-heritage players which was great.
“Hopefully next year I can be picked in the Australian side, so I took on the role this year to gain a bit of experience and improve my game.
“We’ve started a bit of training, last month we had a training camp in Sydney then again this month we’ll meet up for a few days in Sydney again and train.”
