Due to a lack of numbers, the Binalong Brahmans have made the difficult decision to sit out of the George Tooke Shield in both league tag and first-grade tackle. The last time the Brahmans were unable to field a team was over a decade ago in 2011.
The Brahmans suffered through a tough season last year finishing near the bottom of the ladder, even with the rough season they showed plenty of promise displaying youthful talent within the team and plenty of commitment.
The Club put out the following statement;
“The Binalong Brahmans RLFC committee are sad to announce that we will not be fielding teams in the 2023 George Tooke Shield,” The Brahmans said.
“This decision has not been taken lightly but due to low player numbers, we feel this decision is in the best interest of the club.
“This doesn’t mean there will be no footy at all this season, as we are looking at competing in a Community Cup later in the year.
“These competitions are tailor-made for small communities in our exact position. Keep a look out for Brahmans events throughout the year and we hope to use this time to build for our 2024 season.
“Thanks to everyone who has supported us over the years. Sad times, but this is not the end for the Binalong Brahmans.”
The Brahmans are sitting out of a competition they once dominated, winning three George Tooke Shields in the 2010s alone.
Not only is the Brahmans not having a team sad for the town of Binalong, but for the entirety of the George Tooke Shield as one of the biggest teams in the history of the competition is sitting out for a season.
