Boot camps have become a signature of Nick Hall’s coaching style, and his Harden Hawks were taken through their paces in a gruelling camp on Saturday. Met by very warm conditions in Harden, Hawks playmaker Lane Gaudie explained it was tough going for those involved.
“It entailed a fair bit of running and the legs were sore on Sunday,” Gaudie laughed.
“We did some laps around town, and we were going through creeks and rivers and getting a bit dirty.
“There would have been close to 25 blokes there, and it was definitely physically and mentally demanding, but with things like that, you don’t go into it lightly, and all the boys were putting the effort in, even though it was hot and pretty tough.”
Teamwork was the theme of the day, with everyone helping their mates through the gruelling physical tests.
“I definitely think it worked,” Gaudie said.
“The boys are definitely getting around each other more this year than last year, and after the heartbreak of what happened against Coota last year, the boys are ready to crack into it.
“There were no individuals that stood out on the day either, and I think in all honestly, all the boys got around everyone, and pushed each other along, which is what you want to see.”
Hall is into his second year coaching with the Hawks, and it appears that the playing group is buying into his coaching philosophies.
