Mouse Almighty, a six year old filly trained and owned by Coota man George Dimitropoulous won at big odds last Friday at Moonee Valley, beating out 8 other horses to take home $33,000 in prize money.
The filly is out of Lacey Lou from Star Witness and in it’s racing career has proven quite profitable for owners and punters alike. If you had backed Mouse Almighty throughout its career you’d have achieved a 271 percent return on investment.
It was an impressive win for the Dimitropoulous-trained filly who made it two from two this season and has now won four of it’s past five starts. It challenged the favourite Viviane for the lead early and the Craig Williams-ridden horse was no match for Mouse Almighty and it’s jockey Celine Gaudray as they left Vivane in their dust at the bend and never looked back winning the race by 2 and 1/4 lengths over Dupie Doll with Harry Coffey aboard. Rose Tycoon ridden by Damien Oliver completed the trifecta finishing third.
Mouse Almighty opened at $31 and was only shorter than the rank outsider Dupie Doll who ran second in the race at $81. The favourite Viviane was paying $1.55 and finished last on Friday night.
For George, it was his first race and first win at Moonee Valley and he couldn’t have been happier.
“She’s unbelievable, we got her here from Wagga Wagga and from when she got off the place she was head down straight to work,” said George.
“It’s amazing, she’s got a massive heart for a small horse and that’s why we called her Mouse Almighty.
“She’s never won as a favourite, so when I saw she was at good odds today I knew she’d get the job done.
“The opportunity to come to Moonee Valley was perfect. It’s a short course so when an opportunity comes to hit the front and get into a little bit of a dog fight it’s no problem.
“I’ve got four or five horses I’m training in Wagga but I’m a hobby trainer, I do it for the love of it.
“I travel an hour and 20 minutes to work every day but I love it, I love my horses,” Dimitropoulous continued.
Lastly, when asked if he’d be returning to Moonee Valley George said, “With this win, why wouldn’t you.”
The mighty mare is not scheduled for another race as of publishing, but look out for the mighty little mare soon.
