Emma James, Clare Smith and Georgia Smith at the CRRL awards night.

The McIntyre Medal presentation night was on Wednesday the 31st of August with the Hawks stars among the best of the best in the Canberra Region Rugby League.

It is no surprise that the Hawkettes took out the majority of the league tag awards as they were the undefeated premiers of the George Tooke Shield Ladies League Tag.

The special awards started the night with the George Tooke Shield Rep Player of the Year going to Brad Laurent and the George Tooke Shield League Tag Rep Player of the Year went to Claire Smith from the Harden Hawkettes.

The George Tooke Shield League Tag award for the Best and Fairest award went to Harden’s Emma James, the Coach of the Year award went to North Canberra’s Haley Kemp, the leading points scorer award went to Emma James and the Leading Try Scorer was Harden’s Georgia Smith.

Emma James earned the Best and Fairest and the Leading Points Scorer awards with her six tries, 187 points and a 71 per cent conversion rate on 130 attempts.

Coming in close behind Emma for the Leading Points Scorer award was third placed Claire Smith with 124 points and second place Georgia Smith on 168 points.

Clare Smith put in a great effort with her colossal 31 tries for the season which makes her second for the Leading Try Scorer award, but Georgia Smith couldn’t let her trophy from last year go so she topped Claire with an amazing 42 tries. Unfortunately, the Harden Hawks didn’t take out any awards in the George Tooke Shield, but many of the Hawks were only a few points off the top spot.

The Gavin Miller Best & Fairest medal went to Kurt Johnstone from the UC Stars, Coach of the Year award went to Jack Bramley from the Bungendore Tigers, the Leading Points Scorer award went to Adam Booth from the UC Stars and the Leading Try Scorer was Daniel Jacobs from the Bungendore Tigers.

Whilst Daniel Jacobs from the Tigers took out the top try scorer award with his 16 tries, Hawks players Austin Power and Lane Gaudie were not far behind.

Austin was the fourth leading try scorer with 11 tries and Lane was equal fifth with nine tries.

Adam Booth took out the George Tooke Shield Top Points Scorer with his 98 points but Hawks sharpshooter Lane Gaudie was close behind, coming in fourth with 90 points due to his quality kicking and 9 tries.

A successful night for Harden at the Canberra area awards with the club bringing home four trophies and being in contention for many more.
