Sam Manwaring was selected to compete against some of NSW’s best swimmers for the NSW CHS All School’s Swimming team on Friday the 3rd of June.
Sam said,” My dad took me up to Sydney and I raced in one race the 50-metre breaststroke. I ended up coming ninth out of everyone there.”
Sam’s incredible ability has been covered by The Times before when he went to Sydney to compete, leaving with a place in the top ten in 50 metre breaststroke.
He landed a 37.75 time and set new PBs in the four events he participated in.
He currently holds all eight swimming carnival records at Murrumburrah High, as well as some Cootamundra Pool records – which were over 20 years old.
Sam is continuing to train in winter at the heated pool in Coota.
He has shown he has the determination and talent to make it very far in the sport.
MHS has another Sam, also well-known to the Times with Sam Emms also accomplishing great things.
Sam has been selected to represent the CHS All School’s Soccer team who will play on the 20th and 21st of June.
Sam will play goalkeeper for the side which she’s also done for the young Matilda’s and the Riverina girls’ soccer side.
Sam plays on the weekends for Tuggeranong United alongside her sister Jade, who was also recently called up to the Tuggeranong First Grade team in the Capital Women’s National Premier League.
The Capital Football Women’s National Premier League 1 is the topflight of competition in Canberra and Australian Capital Territory region.
Sam’s side currently sits 5th out of the eight sides in the competition winning two games, drawing one and losing five.
Sam’s Mum, Cindy West, is very proud of how far she’s come.
“We keep a scrapbook at home of all the newspaper articles written, and it’s just amazing to go back through it and see how when she was younger, she was pushing to play for the NSW country side. Now she’s getting closer and closer to playing at the national level, she really is doing an incredible job.”
Good luck to Sam Emms and great work Sam Manwaring. You’re both continuing to make the Twin Towns very proud.
