At the end of last month, Emilee Newham’s dance school, Dance with Miss Em, held disco fundraisers to raise money for ‘Dance for Sick Kids’. Dance for Sick Kids is an opportunity to get moving and grooving to help raise funds to support thousands of families in Australia that rely on Ronald McDonald House Charities each year.
Dance for Sick Kids is a 7-day dance challenge between May 23-29, raising much-needed funds to support families with a seriously ill or injured child.
It is specially designed to be inclusive and bring together a community of people who want to dance to make a difference.
Held on Saturday, May 28, in the Harden Country Club auditorium, the disco fundraiser raised vital money for those in need, as well as in the Cootamundra Ex-Services Club auditorium on Friday the night before.
It’s the second straight year that Emilee’s DWME and Dance2590 group have raised money for Ronald McDonald House Charities.
This year Dance with Miss Em held discos with a $10 entry fee in both Harden and Cootamundra, amounting to 1950 minutes of dance time, leading to over $5000 raised for Ronald McDonald House Charities.
When talking to Emilee about how the rainbow themed disco fundraisers went, she said she was pleased.
“We’re in team with Dance2590 from Cootamundra. We had about 40 kids from Harden attend on our Saturday night disco,”
Emilee said.
“Everyone had a great time and it was a great atmosphere. We basically played just pop culture music and the top 100. Our senior disco obviously loved all the TikTok songs which are all the rave at the moment.”
Emilee said her dance school got involved in the movement due to its importance.
“Not only did we want to give back to the RMHC Charity by helping us through our own hardships but to make sure they are able to continue supporting families in need,”
Emilee continued.
“We have students from both schools who have or are currently using the facilities at Ronald McDonald Charities across NSW. Providing any assistance to help with keeping these families together or supporting them through their hardships is very special to us.
We did this for them.
“We would like to thank everyone for supporting this amazing cause whether it was attending our discos, buying raffle tickets, or donating directly to our fundraising page. No act of kindness no matter how big or small is ever wasted.”
Donations for Dance for Sick Kids continues until the end of June.
