Harden was shocked last week when an almost two-decade old case had finally culminated in the arrest of Robert Samuel Geeves and Anne Margaret Geeves over their alleged involvement in the homicide of Amber Haigh.
New evidence has come to light as more and more parts of the story unfold before the trial that will determine the rest of the couple’s lives. On Wednesday the 19th of June 2002, 19-year-old Amber Haigh was reported missing after failing to return to her Kingsvale home where she had been living with the Geeves and her then sixth-month-old son.
Police were told she had been dropped off at Campbelltown Train Station on Wednesday the 5th of June to visit her father in hospital.
A coronial request in 2011 had ruled Amber Haigh’s death to be a homicide or other misadventure.
After police issued a one million dollar reward for information that could lead to an arrest, Robert and Anne Geeves were taken into custody.
A seventeen page police report has been made which details “twenty” witnesses and phone intercepts that have been used to warrant the arrest.
Robert Geeves has been denied bail due to the contents of the report which his lawyer, June Langfield, has argued was circumstantial however Magistrate Jillian Kiely upholds the application refusal claiming the evidence was “very strong.”
The phone intercepts contain many damning phrases in which the accused had said “have you taken the rest of her up there?” and asking the co-accused not to “roll” on him since he did not want to land himself in prison.
The police also cited evidence that a chainsaw had been purchased shortly after the alleged offence was committed.
Anne Geeves’ lawyer, Clive Hill, has not yet applied for bail but due to the co-accused’s medical condition it seems likely.
