Jugiong’s Sam Manwaring.

The young superstar has been a hero of Harden with his performance in the world of swimming. Sam went to Sydney to compete and left with a place in the top ten in 50s breaststroke.

He landed a 37.75 time and set new PBs in the four events he participated in. Sam enjoys his training down at the Cootamundra pool,

“Yeah, I like it. I go five days a week.” His sessions typically last around two hours. Sam’s father, Max, is very proud of his son’s efforts, “We are super proud. Since last year he has really stepped up and knocked off quite a few club records at the swimming club and some of his own records. He has stepped up a notch.”

Some of Sam’s other times include an impressive 38.01 in 50s backstroke. Sam currently holds all eight records at the swimming carnival for his school Murrumburrah High and some Coota pool records which were over twenty years old.

Max says Sam’s dedication is all his own, “All of this is through his own volition, we don’t put pressure on him on all the training and stuff he does. It’s all his doing on his own. This is what he’s made from it.”

Outside of swimming, Sam originally played footy both league and union in the Centres but he recently stepped down to focus more on swimming.

He also likes other fitness activities such as cross country.

“This year he is actually going to continue to swim and we’re going to do the short course, even go down to Canberra like that. With the school stuff, it doesn’t mean he does cross country and athletics and all that stuff at school but he doesn’t tend to do that on weekends. He stepped down from footy at this point this year and he wants to concentrate on swimming right through the winter.”

Good on ‘ya, Sam.
