Harry Sachs and Simon Glover enjoying a cold drink after a huge day of golf where they raised thousands of dollars for the Cancer Council.
The Harden Golf Course saw a lot of Harry Sachs, Simon Glover, Chad Gilmour and Sheena Gilmour last weekend as the four members participated in the Cancer Council’s ‘The Longest Day’ golf fundraiser.
The Cancer Council’s ‘The Longest Day’ is the ultimate golf challenge to complete four rounds of golf in one day, which amasses to an eye-watering 72 holes.
Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, with two in three people diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70.
The Longest Day is designed to raise funds for the Cancer Council.
Harry and Simon who formed a team coined ‘The Bronze Bombers’ played their four rounds of golf on Saturday, currently raising $1855 towards the cause.
Chad and wife Sheena, or the ‘Happy Gilmour’s’ played their longest day of golf on Sunday, raising $1007 towards the cause so far.
Harry spoke with The Times about the long and tiring day of golf.
“We teed off at about 6 o’clock and about eight and a half hours later we finished. We ripped through it actually in our 35 km/h carts” Harry said.
“The first and second rounds were alright, the third round was pretty average because we were tired, and then the fourth round was better because we realised we were about to finish.”
“It was the longest day of golf I’ve ever played; the hamstrings and lower legs were very tight and pretty sore on Sunday morning.” Harry is currently playing off a handicap of 15, while Simon plays off six.
“Simon had a blinder of a day, he hit one of the best rounds I’ve ever seen him hit. He was also pretty sore the next day,” Harry continued.
“It was a fun day, and we’ll re-assess again for next year.” Harry and Simon played regular single ball stroke play throughout all four rounds.
Harry scored two 80’s and 81’s off the stick, while Simon hit 68, a par 71, and two 73’s.
Both ‘The Bronze Bombers’ and ‘Happy Gimour’s’ fundraising pages are still available to donate to on the Cancer Council’s The Longest Day website.
