John Blackman and Joel Hart of Cootamundra beat Harden’s Scott Fogg and Jamie Kemp.

Last weekend saw the 31st annual Bruce Ware Australian 2 Man Ambrose Championships, at the Harden Country Club Golf Course. The event which celebrated post-CoVID our 30th year of conducting the event due to a reduced running last year, was proudly brought to us by long term partner the Harden-Murrumburrah Bendigo Bank. Around 160 players from Sydney through to Batemans Bay, Grenfell, local, regional and beyond faced the starter each day. In a nail-biting finish and more nerve angling play-off, part Champions John Blackman and Joel Hart of Cootamundra proved a hair too good for locals Scott Fogg and Jamie Kemp with a birdie on the second play-off hole.

Both pairs had finished the 2 rounds of regular play at 18 under par through 36 holes. Remarkable golf where both pairs birdied every 2nd hole on average in the Saturday and Sunday rounds before resulting in the play-off. John Blackman in his Champions speech was very thankful of the sponsors, the Club and its Staff, the volunteers and all associated with the event. John stated it was most likely his favourite event each year and that he and Joel look forward to competing each year. He was impressed at the course, the organisation around CoVID and over the weekend, by all involved. Unlucky runner-ups Scott & Jamie will rue this as the one that got away.

Their near record first round score of 13 under par had set them up for a Day 2 stampede yet the magic that saw them putt the lights out on Saturday, birdy’ing every hole on the back 9 Saturday, eluded their grasp on Sunday only to roll into the play-off and be edged out. Our generous sponsors put forward a record prize sponsorship purse and even footed the unbelievable hole in one prize of a new vehicle on Hole 18 both days.

The latter did not go off with the nearest being local Michael Baldry at about 6 foot. Harden Country Club and the event Organising Committee are most thankful for the generosity of the Harden-Murrumburrah Bendigo Bank and the Murrimboola Financial Services Ltd behind this successful Branch. Truly local and a Bank that genuinely gives back to It’s Community. Our thanks are extended and we trust the relationship continues into next year and beyond.
