The Harden Hawks have been forced to postpone their 100-year reunion yet again, due to New South Wales Coronavirus restrictions remaining in place.
The celebration was initially rescheduled to take place on Saturday, July 31, after the Hawks committee decided it was in the best interest of the community after a COVID-19 outbreak earlier this year.
Harden Hawks President Jason Pollard said that the original rescheduling wasn’t a decision he had a choice in.
In July he told The Times,
“Restrictions at the moment are in place until the night before the reunion, and could say the same after, so it isn’t possible that we could hold the event,” he said.
“With these restrictions, we couldn’t have 300 people in the one room at the racecourse.”
The Hawks were hoping that the 100-year reunion would go ahead on their newly proposed date of November 27.
Jason said that it was a shame that the celebration had to be rescheduled again.
“We had November pencilled in but we can’t have it fully functioning inside with the Covid regulations and social distancing so we wouldn’t have been able to have it on that date,” he said.
Due to the strict Coronavirus restrictions in New South Wales as a result of the high number of cases, the event has been rescheduled to the 12th March 2022.
With the hope of open borders and easing restrictions next year, Jason says that the function criteria will not change, but there will be no football.
“At this stage, there will be no football, that day, it will just purely be the function down at the racecourse,” he said.
If you have already purchased a ticket and cannot attend the reunion, you can contact the Hawks Facebook page to coordinate a refund.
Reunion tickets are currently sold out but will be available at a limited capacity if cancellations are processed.
