Sarah Jones has joined the Murrumburrah High School Team.
Sarah is a Harden local who has moved into the role of a Student Support Officer which is a brand new role in the school and a relatively new role in the Department of Education.
“My role falls somewhere between a teacher, a Student Learning Support Officer and a counsellor. My focus is not the students’ grades attendance but he wellbeing of each student at MHS.” Sarah said.
“My role will include supporting students with anything from needing help understanding their timetables, to issues with friends, to concerns outside the school gate and everything in between.” Sarah started her new role during the first week of lockdown.
“It has been challenging to get started in the role given that students have been remote learning for all but one week during my time at MHS.”
“I am really looking forward to coming back in term four and hopefully experiencing some normality.”
Sarah is also looking forward to being able to spend time getting to know all the students and families of MHS.
“I am excited to be able to work with all students at MHS and support them during their time there and as they prepare for life outside the school gate.”
Previously Sarah was employed with the Department of Communities and Justice, in this role she learned that young adolescents are the least supported age group within the community in terms of resources and services.
“I love working with adolescents, I find the work very rewarding and hope to be another person advocating for these kids.”
Sarah will be at MHS five days a week and available for students to approach via face-to-face or via email when needed.
“As well as providing support to students, I will be implementing small group and whole school activities to support our students.”
“Our community has so much to offer and I really hope I can work closely with other services and even businesses and local organisations to build the support network available to our kids.”
“I encourage anyone who feels they have an idea or something to add to reach out and get in touch.”
