Sport in Harden has been thrown into chaos after the lockdown in Canberra was announced on Thursday and the New South Wales lockdown announced on Saturday.
At this stage it is unknown how long the lockdown will last with competition still to be played.
After competition in Greater Sydney was cancelled due to the pandemic it seems that bush sport may follow in its footsteps.
We are all hoping that this is not the case and sport will carry on so here at the Times we thought that we would keep you up to date with current standings of the sporting teams in town.
In the George Tooke Shield the Harden Hawks are on track to make the finals.
Currently sitting in 4th position with 7 wins and 3 losses, the Hawks were meant to play a catch up game against UC Stars last night but there has been no official announcement as to what will happen with that game.
In the regular season the Hawks have defeated 2 of the three teams above them on the ladder.
Having defeated the Cootamundra Bulldogs twice, the Bungendore Tigers once and losing to the North Canberra Bears in round one, the Hawks look like they are in serious contention to bring home the George Tooke Shield.
The Harden Hawkettes have continued their dominance of the George Tooke Shield competition.
The Hawkettes are currently on an 11 game win streak and are undefeated this season.
They were due to play UC Stars in a catch up game last night but like their club mates game were unable to play.
The Hawkettes have put in a massive effort this year scoring 490 points and have only had 10 scored against them.
They are certain to make the finals and are considered favourites to bring home the trophy for a fourth time.
The Harden WorHawks will unfortunately not be able to make the finals series of the Katrina Fanning Shield having won 2 games and lost 7.
The WorHawks currently sit in 7th place on the ladder and throughout the year have faced some stiff competition but have kept turning up and challenging their opponents.
With two rounds to go if the season recommences the team will be looking to finish the season on a high.
The Harden-Boorowa Under 19’s will have three games left in the Blumers Lawyers Under 19’s competition if it recommences.
Harden-Boorowa currently sit in 5th position trialing behind fourth place Yass by 6 points and are out of finals contention due to for and against.
Even if the team won all three of these games and Yass lost all of their games The Magpies would progress due to having a better for and against.
The Harden-Boorowa Under 19’s have improved a lot this season and will be looking to finish the season with a few more wins.
The Harden Red Devils were meant to play the Cootamundra Tri Colours in the Grand Final of the OilsPlus South West Cup this past Saturday.
The Grand Final was postponed until this Saturday but there has been no official announcement from Central West Rugby as to if it will be played this weekend.
Expect the game not to proceed this Saturday. Check the Times pages for updates if they come to hand.
The Devils looked good to challenge for the Cup for a second year in a row when they went through the regular season only losing one game, before they took the long path to the Grand Final giving up a 17-0 lead to lose 21-20 to the Tri Colours in the first semi.
To progress to the grand final at Country Club Oval at Cootamundra, the Devils beat the dark horses Boorowa 32-22.
The Harden She Devils bowed out of the finals chase, losing 19-0 to the Young Yabbettes in the minor semi final.
The She Devils finished the regular season with 1 win, 1 draw and 7 losses with a number of those losses being by 5 points or less which was a great effort by the team.
By the end of the season the team had improved a lot especially in their lineouts and scrums.
The She Devils will now look towards improving their results for next season.
It has been a great year for local sport in Harden with many teams being successful, let’s hope once the lockdown is lifted that these sports can continue and a champion can be crowned.
