Fifteen ladies of Young will bravely star in a topless photoshoot in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness.

Organised by small business owner of Graze Away, Laura Cartwright, the event is designed as a cancer fundraiser.

“I had this idea of taking the shave your head for a cure concept and putting a spin on it, so that it was something a little bit different,” Mrs Cartwright said.

The Dare to Bare fundraiser is scheduled for October 30 to align with Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The challenge will consist of 15 local women who have come forward following Laura’s Facebook post.

“Each lady has set a target amount that they want to raise and then they have to reach out to sponsors.

“It’s an initiative like ‘Shave for a Cure’ for each lady to hit their target and participate in the photoshoot”.

Each of the 15 ladies will be collecting donations and sponsorship from family, friends, or local businesses in individual bank accounts.

Although for a great cause, some of the women have been understandably apprehensive approaching the project. Laura provided some motivation.

“A couple of them were definitely nervous and out of their comfort zone, Laura said.

“Most people have had someone directly close to them or themselves go through cancer, but like I said to them, try and channel that and think about how uncomfortable women are going through breast cancer and losing their hair.”

All proceeds raised will be donated to Can Assist Young and Boorowa.

The event will all be tastefully captured by Kristielle Gibbons Photography in a private setting in Laura’s home.

Local businesses will have a chance to shine, with props such as flowers, hats and jackets being supplied to the cause allowing the women to remain somewhat discreet.

Mrs Cartwright’s inspiration for the event came from her four children, three of which are girls.

“I did specially say to my girls I want them to be aware of their bodies and not be too busy to check and to sense when something is wrong.

“I just want to be around to see my kids grow up. I hope to God that it’s never something that I have to face or deal with because I want to be around for them.”

The Dare to Bare Fundraiser will be a ticketed event, with 60 tickets having already been sold, with another 20 remaining for the event day.

Tickets for the event are $75 each and come with a badge, saying ‘Hey Cancer F#$K You’ and ‘All Kinds of Strong’.

There will be two guest speakers attending, including a breast cancer nurse and a Can Assist representative.

Much of the event will be live streamed as well as posts on social media.
